Amazon Invests Over $2 Billion Additional Monies in Anthropic

Amazon announced at the end of March that the online retail and IT infrastructure services provider has invested an additional $2.75 billion in Generative AI start-up Anthropic. With this latest investment, Amazon’s total investment in this AI start-up amounts to $4 billion, and reportedly has a minority ownership.

In reporting of the latest investment, The Wall Street Journal observed that the total investment represents Amazon’s largest investment in another company since its founding 30 years ago. The report further indicated that Anthropic has committed to spend upwards of $4 billion on Amazon’s various Cloud infrastructure, data management software applications or custom graphics processor chips over the next five years. The AWS business unit has reportedly added Anthropic large language model technology to its Cloud hosting offerings.

 

Supply Chain Risk Management Provider Avetta Acquired

Stockholm based private equity firm EQT has reportedly agreed to acquire supply chain risk management software technology and managed services provider Avetta from existing private equity owners Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe (WCAS).

Founded in 2003, Utah based Avetta has reportedly deployed by 500 clients located in more than 130 countries. The software and managed services of this provider were augmented with the acquisition of New South Wales based Pegasus in 2021.

The acquisition reportedly values Avetta at upwards of $3 billion. Added funding will reportedly support global wide business growth along with added technology development.

Financial terms have not been disclosed.

Reportedly, with this investment, EQT X Fund is expected to be 35-40 percent invested. The transaction is subject to customary conditions and approvals and is expected to close in the coming months.

 

Accenture Acquires Global Logistics Consulting Firm Flo Group

Global based consulting and other services firm Accenture has reportedly acquired European based global logistics consulting services firm Flo Group.

Founded in 2007, Rotterdam based Flo Group specializes in Oracle focused logistics software support and deployment services capabilities. The deal reportedly will further enhance Oracle’s logistics software deployment capabilities across Europe. The existing 280 Flo consultants will be part of the Accenture Oracle Business Group.

No financial terms were disclosed.

 

Publicis Sapient Announces Acquisition of Spinnaker SCA

Digital business transformation company Publicis Sapient has announced the acquisition of Spinnaker SCA, a supply chain services firm that provides end-to-end supply chain strategy, planning and execution consulting services.

Founded in 2002 with over 100 consultants and based in Boulder, Colorado, Spinnaker SCA designs and builds agile supply chains for leading brands across Consumer Staples, High Tech, Industrial Manufacturing, Retail & Apparel, Medical Devices, and Distribution Industries.

As part of the acquisition, Spinnaker SCA will reportedly enable Publicis Sapient to strengthen its capabilities further in agile digital supply chain transformation.  Some of the core capabilities and skill sets that Spinnaker brings include supply chain management and process improvement, supply chain design and analytics, supply chain planning, omni-channel order management and supply chain execution.  In addition, Spinnaker SCA’s offerings will augment Publicis Sapient’s capabilities around advanced AI/ML analytics, supply chain digital twins, data solutions, warehouse management, transportation management and expanded digital sustain services.

According to the announcement, Spinnaker CEO John Sharkey and his team will serve as the foundation of a new digital supply chain practice at Publicis.

No financial details were disclosed in the announcement.

 

Gather AI Raises $17 Million in Series A Funding

Computer vision and AI-powered warehouse inventory monitoring technology start-up Gather AI has announced $17 Million Series A-1 funding led by Bain Capital Ventures. Added participation included Tribeca Venture Partners, Dundee Venture Capital, Expa, and Bling Capital.

Founded in 2018 by co-founders Sankalp Arora, Daniel Maturana and Geetesh Dubey, after launching the Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute, the technology provider’s software capabilities enables drones to autonomously fly through internal warehouses to record inventory levels, empty locations and other inventory related information. The data is then compared with the existing warehouse management system (WMS) in order to foster real-time inventory accuracy and availability information.

This added funding reportedly provides a cumulative $34 million raised to date.

With added funding, this start-up is aiming to triple its operations and support a reported strong customer demand for such capabilities.

 

Four Kites and BuyCo Partner to Provide Ocean Freight Management

Supply chain end-to-end visibility Cloud platform provider Four Kites and BuyCo, an ocean container shipping platform have announced a strategic partnership to provide Fortune 500 shippers with broader visibility and control throughout the entire container shipping process.

Reportedly, through this strategic partnership, FourKites and BuyCo are committed to helping high-volume shippers streamline their operations; build a more sustainable supply chain; and enhance the overall supply chain execution and customer experience through end-to-end digitization. With access to BuyCo’s global network of ocean carriers, which reportedly covers 97 percent of global container flows, shippers can retrieve essential shipping schedules from their preferred carriers as well as select the optimal route based on factors such as CO2 emissions, cost, estimated time of arrival (ETA) and allocations.

 

Descartes Acquires OCR Services

Descartes Systems Group has announced the acquisition of OCR Services, a provider of global trade compliance services and content for the sum of $90 million.

Rockville, Maryland based OCR specializes in content and services related to export compliance and controlled commodities, denied party screening, license procurement and product classification services.
